Uttarakhand! Which is popularly known as “Dev Bhumi Uttarakhand” meaning the land of the Gods, has truly been a blessed land. It is home to several spiritual destinations like the world-famous Char Dhams, Rishikesh and Haridwar apart from various others. The Gods have been especially kind to the region which boasts of diverse marvels of mother nature, like the beautiful valleys of Dehradun and Nainital or the delightful Valley of flowers. While the alpine slopes of Auli, the ‘Queen of hills’ – Mussoorie, the orchards of Mukteshwar, the ghats of Haridwar and the yoga capital of India Rishikesh are pretty well known. Some however aren’t as popular. One such place is Kainchi. The place that changes lives!
In the ‘Lake District of India’, 16 kms from Nainital; there lies a small hamlet of Kainchi. Kainchi was brought to the world map by august Baba Neem Karoli (1900-1973), who established his ashram here in the year 1964. It is often referred to as the spiritual capital of the region where the likes of Apple Inc’s Steve Jobs, Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, Google’s Larry Page, e-bay’s Jeffery Skoll and Hollywood actress Julia Roberts have come on a pilgrimage and found life’s direction. Apart from being the spiritual capital Kainchi is a natural paradise. It is covered with lush green forests. Dotted fruit orchards and tea estates you can get the best quality apples, apricots, peaches and plums. The renowned lakes of Nainital district are in the close vicinity too.
